Mama goose lines up behind a row of her goslings

I realized a day late that I should have shared this one on Mother’s Day.

OK, I confess. I actually have no idea whether this is actually the mama goose or the papa goose. Sue me.

Old Squaw

An Oldsquaw in the waters of Lake Ontario

These ducks are always so very shy, and it’s tough to get a good photo of one. These are a species of diving duck that passes through this area in the spring, although I don’t think I’ve seen one in mid-May before. Usually, they’re around in March/April.

Merganser Dusk

A pair of Mergansers preen in the failing sunlight

I don’t know why I am putting up this photo. The birds were too far away, their friends in the background are almost invisible, and it feels… fuzzy. But, it had an undefinable surreal feeling to it, between the mist rising off the water and the soft feathers on the back of the male bird’s head, and the colour of the sky which just felt placid to me. Mergansers also tend to stop by here and then move on, so I rarely get the chance to capture them in nice weather.
